A paranormal investigative team has a number of different ways in which it operates depending on the type of investigation that needs to be conducted. The grand, large-scale investigations tend to be reserved for historic locations that are expansive and loaded with history and floorspace. Residential investigations are run more conservatively in nature, but are equally, if not more, thorough since the space to investigate is generally smaller. However, there is another type of investigation on a smaller scale that is utilized at times by Oklahoma’s Society of the Haunted in special situations — the preliminary investigation.

When did you first become interested in the paranormal?
I would have to say that my interest has always been there because I had many experiences through my life. I needed answers as to what it was and why the minute that it began.
Have you always believed in ghosts?
I have always believed in ghosts because I always saw them or had experiences with them.

A haunting investigation at the University of Oklahoma’s Ellison Hall

While ghost stories circulate around the University of Oklahoma’s campus, it is rather uncommon for a paranormal team to be offered an opportunity to investigate there, and by all accounts no one had ever investigated Ellison Hall. So when the Society of the Haunted was offered the chance to investigate there, the group’s theologian and occult specialist, Chris Borthick, remarked, “This is a very rare and unique opportunity.”

Oklahoma’s Society of the Haunted on television and helping the community

Footsteps are heard in an upstairs bedroom when no one else is home. A dish inexplicably falls from the counter and smashes on the floor. Someone wakes up in the dead of the night with a dark entity hovering above the bed. Are there physical explanations for these occurrences, or are the answers more ethereal? Our group did a “Ghost Roast” with 93.3 Jake FM at the Stone Lion Inn for Halloween. The night was filled with tour a and ghost stories around a camp fire. Hot dogs roasted on sticks, smores and roasted marshmallows were also a part of the fun. Everyone got to experience ghost hunting first hand
The Stone Lion Inn located in Guthrie, Oklahoma is a really special place. We have investigated numerous times and always come away with more evidence in the form of evps or photographs.

The group was featured on Fox 25 news in Oklahoma City with Jaclyn Schultz talking about the paranormal. She wanted to know how to use the equipment and had the group give her a tour of the historical Stone Lion Inn in Guthrie.

Students in the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication know Chris Borthick as an academic adviser, but he also works an occult specialist for an organization whose exploits will be featured today on cable television.
Oklahoma Paranormal Research and Investigations will be featured in an episode of the Animal Planet paranormal anthology series, “The Haunted,” 9 p.m. Friday.
“We’re not really supposed to talk about (the episode) before it airs,” Borthick said. But he was allowed to reveal the show will deal with an
investigation of a house in southeastern Oklahoma where the family’s animals were having problems with odd incidents.

When Gloria and her Husband Roy find the words “Leave Now or Die” spray-painted on their house — they brush it off as local kids playing pranks. But after they hear terrifying animal-like growls and Gloria wakes up with a cross scribbled on her forehead, they call in a paranormal team for help. During an investigation, one of the team members is attacked and possessed by an unknown entity. Fearing for the lives, they leave but return with a demonoligist to rid the property of what they believe is a demon.
