THE WOODLANDS, Texas—On All Hallow’s Eve everyone is just a little jittery about things that go bump in the night, but according to the Woodlands Paranormal, most apparitions and noises have a logical explanation. The mission of this group of rational human beings is to investigate and determine the root cause of perceived paranormal events using a normal thought process, but their investigations are anything but normal.

Formed in 2007, the organization is based in The Woodlands but its members are scattered throughout the Greater Houston area, and come from diverse backgrounds and occupations. According to the case manager, Cathy Nance, the eclectic group consists of skeptics, clergymen, public safety officials, and medical professionals, but not necessarily anyone with extrasensory perception skills.

“Our role is to investigate the phenomena using scientific methods and available technology, then make a rational determination,” said Nance.

…….

Nance, a healthcare professional in the nursing field, will be speaking in Jefferson, Texas, on the topic of mental health. Her presentation is titled, “Negative Cases. Are the Voices Real?”

Paranormal investigation at Muskogee’s Roxy Theater

by Michael Ricksecker

On Saturday, June 2, the paranormal team Society of the Haunted descended upon the old Roxy Theater in Muskogee to determine whether or not local rumors about the building being haunted were true. Positioned in the center of downtown Muskogee, the Roxy opened in 1948 and still boasts a classic neon sign and fully restored original seating, but many about the town have wondered if spirits from the mid-Twentieth Century lurked there as well. Armed with cameras, audio recorders, and electromagnetic field detectors, Society of the Haunted ventured inside as the first paranormal team to ever investigate the Roxy.

Team members immediately picked up a different vibe when they entered. “It was evident from the second you walked in that you were not alone,” commented investigator Dawn Caban.

Justice for Zahra Baker

Justice for Zahra Baker

Posted on 15 September 2011 by Cathy

She finally admitted it! Zahra Baker’s stepmom, Elisa Baker finally admitted she killed her. She just plead guilty in a Catawba County courtroom today to second degree murder in the death and dismemberment of her disabled North Carolina stepdaughter. She also plead guilty to charges of obstruction of justice and bigamy. Elisa Baker stated that on the day the child died she found Zahra unresponsive. It was Sept. 24, 2010 and she tried to perform CPR before calling Adam Baker. She will now serve 14 to 18 years in prison. As far as the father Adam Baker goes he was found to not be involved in his daughter’s death or dismemberment. Phone records prove she was lying to him about his daughter being alive. They also prove he was at work while she was getting rid of the body as well. Investigators never did found Zahra’s head, hands, right arm, upper left leg or her lower right leg. This case has always been very sad to me. I hope the family now has some sense of closure as they begin a new chapter of their life. As for many of us we will never forget Zahra

Inside a preliminary paranormal investigation

Michael Ricksecker, Oklahoma City Paranormal Examiner

July 14, 2011 –

A paranormal investigative team has a number of different ways in which it operates depending on the type of investigation that needs to be conducted. The grand, large-scale investigations tend to be reserved for historic locations that are expansive and loaded with history and floorspace. Residential investigations are run more conservatively in nature, but are equally, if not more, thorough since the space to investigate is generally smaller. However, there is another type of investigation on a smaller scale that is utilized at times by Oklahoma’s Society of the Haunted in special situations — the preliminary investigation.

A haunting  investigation at the University of Oklahoma’s Ellison Hall

Michael Ricksecker, Oklahoma City Paranormal  Examiner
April 21,  2011

While ghost stories circulate around the University of Oklahoma’s campus, it  is rather uncommon for a paranormal team to be offered an opportunity to  investigate there, and by all accounts no one had ever investigated Ellison  Hall. So when the Society of the Haunted was offered the chance to investigate  there, the group’s theologian and occult specialist, Chris Borthick, remarked, “This is a very rare and unique  opportunity.”

Oklahoma’s Society of the Haunted on television and helping the community

Michael Ricksecker, Oklahoma City Paranormal Examiner

March 31, 2011

Footsteps are heard in an upstairs bedroom when no one else is home. A dish inexplicably falls from the counter and smashes on the floor. Someone wakes up in the dead of the night with a dark entity hovering above the bed. Are there physical explanations for these occurrences, or are the answers more ethereal? Members of the Society of the Haunted have been answering these questions and helping the citizens of Oklahoma and nearby states for years
